It has been a really good summer at Langdale. Yes, there were days in that very dry period when we’d have given our hind teeth for some rain, but so many of the plants enjoyed the sunshine and so did we! As you learn to garden in a new place it is interesting to see how it behaves in different conditions, and from that you start to learn what are the right plants for the place.
The race was on to actually complete the hard landscaping before we opened the garden to visitors, and we certainly ran up to the wire. We had a number of small groups over the summer and our NGS Open Weekend early August (right). All were a great success. NGS Open Weekend in 2014 will be 16th & 17th August.
There were so many horticultural highlights over the summer, but we especially enjoyed the Romantic Border in June, full of blowsy peonies, sweet peas, delphiniums, poppies and roses (left), and the perennials & grasses in the Rosemoor Border are doing their stuff through August / September.
