The garden at Langdale has been so colourful over the Spring. Our new garden is starting to establish and with it the sense that we really do have a garden again.
The gravel bed is full of interest the year round, but in Spring is filled with bright colourful bulbs including dwarf irises and miniature narcissi. Often withstanding the most awful weather, they are bright and straight-forward, just what you need after the long winter. Here (left) the jonquil type daffodil Narcissus ‘Henriquesii’ is one in a succession that brightens our lives.
We make no bones about it – we love tulips! We grow many different varieties, many old favourites that we know and love, but each year we like to try out some new varieties too. This year we have grown Tulipa ‘Gems Favourite’ (right) for the first time. Grown in a terracotta pot it stood some 18” high with strong stems keeping it upright throughout the season. The flowers are a striking combination of purple and white and it stays in flower for weeks. Superb quality and great value, a wonderful addition to the spring garden, we definitely see Rems Favourite becoming an old favourite!
